Hundreds of police, military charged with felonies in the National District

Santo Domingo.- More than 440 police and military personnel have been brought up on criminal charges by the National District Office of the Prosecutor since 2012.

Data from the Prosecutor’s Office show injuries in assaults as the most common felony, or 34% of the cases; threats (21%), abuse of authority (18%), illegal detention (7%), theft (6%), homicide (3%), attempted murder (2%), scams (1%) and "other" (8%).

The cases are investigated by the Office of the National District Prosecutor’s Internal Affairs Dept., created in 2012 by the DA, Yeni B. Reynoso.

The prosecution of police officers and members of the military involved in serious crimes continue this year, with seven already sent to prison, four in the National District and three in Santo Domingo province.
