Delay to hand over seized assets prompts surprising demand

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry on Thursday demanded that Seized Assets Custody Office director Laureano Guerrero release, under inventory, the remaining properties confiscated from drug traffickers and money launders as soon as possible.

Seized Assets Custody and Management Unit director Gladys Checo urged Guerrero to comply without further delay with the legal provision which assigned the task to the Justice Ministry.

She said Executive Order 571-5 issued on October 2005 gives the Justice Ministry the control over those properties.

Guerrero has yet to explain the reason behind the delay that prompted Checo’s surprising request.
