New organization will become biggest party: Opposition candidate

Santo Domingo.- ASD party presidential candidate Luis Abinader on Monday said most of the rank and file of Dominican Republic’s major opposition PRD party will join a new political organization he affirms represent the PRD’s historical values.

"It will be the party of the principles of democracy, social justice, ethics and good governance, which are the true principles which José Francisco Peña Gómez stood for," Abinader said of the new party called the Revolutionary Majority Party (PRM).

He said the PRD sector headed by Miguel Vargas can usurp that party’s symbols and logo, but not people and principles he said constitute the political organization’s main assets.

"We as faithful disciples of José Francisco Peña Gómez have consulted the base and the people, and hence the name of the Revolutionary Majority Party has emerged," to represent the PRD’s historical values.

He reiterated that most of the PRD rank and file will soon join the PRM.
