At least 109 newborn babies with chikungunya in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- At least 109 newborn babies have chikungunya in the Dominican Republic after their mothers transmitted the virus to them when giving birth, the health authorities announced Friday.

According to AP, the Public Health Ministry revealed that the mosquito-borne virus has affected nearly 500,000 people in the country despite the campaigns to encourage citizens to remove containers of standing water to control the two species of mosquitoes that transmit the virus.
