Pretrial detention for suspect in attempted jailbreak left 6 dead

San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.- San Cristobal district judge Tomas Jorge Isaac remanded Juan Diego Montero to three months pretrial detention in connection with the attempted jailbreak at Najayo Prison on October 24, which left four inmates and two correctional guards dead.

The judge also rescheduled the arraignment for co-accused Jairo Brito to an unspecified date, for the prosecution to review the evidence, and ordered Montero’s detention at La Victoria prison.

The National Police had carried out several searches of Montero’s residence in Santo Domingo Este, where two rifle clips and military equipment were allegedly seized.
