4.7 magnitude quake jolts Dominican Republic’s southwest

Santo Domingo.- A quake of 4.7 magnitude jolted Dominican Republic’s southwestern region on 7:30am Tuesday, which according to the US Geodetic Survey the epicenter was 8km NNW of Cristobal, Bahoruco province, and 1.0 km deep.

Local reports say the tremor was 4.8 magnitude and whose epicenter was event was near the town of Oviedo, Pedernales province.

The tremor was placed at 49,west longitude 17.49, north latitude, 29 kilometers deep, with “no significant damages, but the people close to it felt the jolt,” said a resident of Barahona who called Telesistema, Channel 11.
