Lawmaker asks voters to oust corrupt officials in next elections

Bonao, Dominican Republic.- Independent deputy Minou Tavarez Mirabal on Sunday urged Dominican voters to oust the corrupt officials in next year’s elections, citing the ruling party’s numerous scandals being uncovered every day.

The also president of organization Democratic Choice (OD) said there’s a new era in Dominican Republic, which should put an end to corruption in government, "which has hurt us as a society all these years."

Tavarez said since most of the population lives under calamity, the origin of the wealth of government officials and groups entrenched in power must be investigated. "That wealth has gone to campaigns to ensure that the group remains at the helm of power in the Dominican Republic."

The former senior leader of the ruling PLD party said the country’s RD$205 billion debt is an example of what was left by the previous Administration.
