Santiago court rules for environmentalists in aggregates scandal

Santiago.- A Santiago court ordered the Cibao Ecological Society (SOECI) to render a detailed report of the environmental damage caused by aggregate companies at Jacagua, next to Diego de Ocampo peak, in the northern mountain range.

1st Civil Chamber judge Samuel Guzman also ordered Environment Ministry’s regional director Mario Tejada to reveal the names of the companies that had obtained extraction permits, as ruled for the plaintiff’s request based on alleged damage to plant and animal live and water sources caused by the quarries.

The court ordered Tejada to appear on June 24 for questioning into the authenticity of the permits submitted by SOECI as evidence against the companies which extract building materials from the area.
