US envoy visits border facilities; migrants returning to Haiti

Santo Domingo.- US ambassador James W. Brewster visitedthe border at Pedernales province on Tuesday, where he met with Immigrationdirector Ruben Dario Paulino and Border Security Corps director Carlos AguirreReyes.

Army commander Jose Eugenio Matos, Dominican consul inAnse-A-Pitre, Haiti, Maximo Feliz, among other officials also attended themeeting in Pedernales.

The diplomat and the officials visited the shelter managedby Immigration in Pedernales, where Reyes said the government provided all the supportfor Haitians who didn’t qualify for the program to regularize foreigners andopted to return to their country.

The flow of people who’ve chosen to leave the country"remains fairly high," Reyes said.
