LatAm cannot be left out of an increasingly intricate world: Fernadez

Santo Domingo.- .Former president Leonel Fernandez on Tuesday headed the opening ceremony andexhibit of the V International Conference of Latin American Network ofInternational Studies (RIBEI) 2015 with representatives from 14 countries and20 institution, at Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode) headquarters.

Fernandez said in anincreasingly interdependent world, Latin America cannot be left out of thecurrent, and it´s challenged to advance taking into account the variouseconomic and political processes that occur beyond its borders and impact them.

In that regard, Networkmember Salvador Arriola said the current situation requires the renewal ofLatin America´s thinking and noted the challenges facing the region. “The firstis to achieve common positions on international challenges they share.”

During his opening speechPedro Dallari, RIBEI president and director of Sao Paulo University´s InternationalRelations Institute (IRI-USP), summarized the agreements reached by RIBEI´sSteering Committee at its prior meeting.

He said the Committee agreedto become a research network to make a more effective contribution to LatinAmerica and Latin America´s leaders, by supporting their governments.
