Grassroots group to stage ‘human chain’ protests at electoraloffices
Santo Domingo.- The grassroots movement Poder Ciudadano(Citizen Power) on Monday announced the second "human chain" protestin as many week, at all electoral boards nationwide to demand a manual votecount of all ballots cast in Sunday’s general elections.
Movement spokesman Manuel Robles called on citizens tosupport the protest set for 5pm Tuesday against the Central Electoral Board’s(JCE) decision to manually verify the vote only for the ballots for president.
He said other tests and independent audits on the equipmentshould be conducted before carrying out the electronic tally.
Robles went to the JCE accompanied by other group members,to deliver a document urging the agency’s directors to "act wisely and strictlyrespect the electoral law, ensuring transparency and reliability of theelectoral process.”
