Taiwan VP to attend Dominican presidential inauguration

Santo Domingo.- Taiwan Vice PresidentChen Chien-jen departed Saturday from the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport inorder to attend attend the Aug. 16 inauguration of Dominican re-electedPresident Danilo Medina and Vice President Margarita Cedeno.

According to Focustaiwan.tw,Chen, who is leading a 14-member delegation, will make a transit stop in NewYork on his way to the Dominican Republic.

The report added that Chen willalso hold meetings with Medina, his Dominican counterpart and other governmentofficials to discuss issues of mutual concern.

The vice presidentwill also visit bilateral cooperation projects, including the 911 EmergencySystem, the Center for Comprehensive Care for the Disabled, a solar power plantfinanced by Taiwanese firms and an orchid farm, Focustaiwan.tw reported.

The online outlet said the Taiwanese delegation will also meet with Dominicans who graduated from universities in Taiwan withhelp from the Taiwan Scholarship program, which provides funding for studentsfrom Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and other friendly nations to study in the Asian country.
