Flash flooding alerts, downpours as tropical wave approaches

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Tuesdayissued flash flooding and landslide alerts for several eastern and south-centralprovinces, on downpours from a low pressure system and tropical wave.

It also warned small craft to remain in port along theentire Caribbean coast on higher than normal surf. The COE also closed beachesand banned recreational boating jet skiing among other water sports.

The National Weather Office says the system is expected overthe Dominican Republic today, with increasing cloudiness, downpours,thunderstorms and wind gusts, and also forecasts that the seasonably high temperatureswill continue.
