Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) on Saturday asked the political parties to halt the electoral promotions they carry out leading to the 2020 election, calling them untimely and illegal.

The JCE reminded the parties of its absolute authority to regulate and prevent the practice, which it considers “improper and inopportune.”

It cites Law 275-97: “Every election will be preceded by a proclamation from the JCE, to be issued no later than 90 days before its celebration.”

“The JCE sees with concern the obvious and evident electoral efforts in the media, which are untimely and out of all legal provisions,” the agency said in a paid ad.

It adds that the Constitution confers on that electoral body the power to regulate campaign spending, duration and limits and equitable access to the media.
