Dominican Republic anticorruption group gets 66% support: poll

Santo Domingo.- The Green March movement has the support of 66% of the population surveyed by SIN-Mark Penn, especially among the youngest population and sympathizers of the major opposition party (PRM).

The poll found that those who expressed support for the anticorruption movement are those who say they are members or supporters of the PRM, with 87%, and young people between 18 and 24 year-olds, with 77%.

Support for the Green March is also high among sympathizers of the ruling party (PLD), with 51%, and the pro-government party (PRD), with 73%.

Among those who said they’re independents, the group with the strongest sympathy with the political parties according to the survey (58%), support for the movement reached 69%.

Government corruption is Dominican Republic’s third biggest problem, according to the survey, behind crime and unemployment, with 14%.

There will be no convictions against those charged in the Odebrecht bribery scandal, is the belief of 68% of those polled, compared with 21% who believe that there will be prison sentences.
