Prosecutor orders arrest of 4 Police officials(Update)

Santo Domingo.- Police spokesman said the officials are accused of a RD$2.0 million robbery.

File. Santo Domingo Oeste prosecutor Rosalba Ramos on Wed. ordered the arrest of National Police Col. Francisco Vargas, Lt. Col. Santiago Sánchez, Capt. Martín Madé and 2nd Lt. Ormandis Alcántara, who were escorted to the Police jail.

Police spokesman Frank Durán made the announcement, but said he doesn’t know the reasons behind the arrest.

In 2010 Vargas was released on RD$2.0 million bond and charged with trafficking four kilos of drugs, along with prosecutor Lucia Florentino and other police officers and a soldier.

In that case, a judge remanded Air Force Maj. Edwin Herrera to a year of pretrial detention in La Victoria prison that same day .
