In just 5 days Immigration detains 1,040 Haitians, deports 804

Santo Domingo.- The Immigration Directorate (DGM) on Wed. said it detained 1,040 undocumented Haitians during operations carried out in eight provinces and the National District, of which 236 underwent background checks and released, and 804 were deported to their country.

The undocumented aliens were detained from April 1 to 5 in Santiago, Azua, Valverde, Peravia, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Montecristi, and Greater Santo Domingo.

“During the operations, the immigration inspectors were assisted by members of the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Dominican Republic, as well as members of the National Police and the Justice Ministry,” Immigration said in a press release.
