Citizens rally for traffic order: urging Intrant and Digesset to enforce regulations

Santo Domingo.- Concerned citizens are urging Intrant and Digesset to take charge of controlling and supervising traffic across the national territory, emphasizing the chaos prevalent on Dominican Republic roads. They express distress over the constant peril citizens face due to the unruly behavior of motorists, asserting that these individuals have flagrantly disregarded traffic laws, taking liberties with streets and sidewalks.

The citizens argue that it is the responsibility of traffic regulatory authorities, specifically INTRANT and DIGESSET, to address the issues caused by motoconchos (motorcycle taxis). They stress that society should not bear the burden of taking measures against them. The protesters call on these institutions to enforce traffic laws rigorously and regulate companies, associations, and unions employing motorcyclists.

Furthermore, the citizens demand immediate short- and long-term actions from traffic regulation entities to curb vehicle accidents. They present two vital points to initiate a transformation in the population’s adherence to the law:

Firstly, a formal and responsible request is made to President Luis Abinader to promulgate the missing Implementation Regulations of Law 63-17. This includes the regime of consequences with fines based on the minimum wage of the Centralized State, ranging from 1 to 20 minimum wages depending on the severity of the violation.

Secondly, an appeal is directed to the Judiciary, urging Traffic Court judges to apply the law as written. The citizens stress the importance of adhering to the Constitution’s principle of equality in law application. They express concern about sentences that run counter to the Constitution and laws, contributing to the arrogant, defiant, and risky behavior of motorcyclists. Paradoxically, these motorcyclists are the primary contributors to the high mortality rate from traffic accidents, placing the country in the unfortunate position of having the highest traffic accident deaths globally.

Citizens need to be in order first in ,so any other order can function properly ..
Why are trying to jump from first grade into Harvard ,impossible …
People are struggling to survive ,95%of the population is in debt with prestamos , and you can want them to be in order ?!

The passive attitude of the police with blinders on when laws are disregarded. It is for them to change into action.

Punta Cana has become a free-for-all, led by transfer drivers who obviously have some sort of immunity to enforcement. In their personal life, they must all drive Sonatas and K5’s, as they driving disrespect is similar.

The other newest craze…aircraft strength headlights…always on high beam and blinding all who dare to drive in the opposite direction. I am seriously considering no more night driving until these 12-year-olds figure out that retina-burning headlights don’t have to be on permanent high beams.

In the meantime, Digisett will sit under the shade of a tree, checking cars for seatbelts in Cortecito. I cannot think of the last time I have seen a traffic cop out after 6pm. Seems the pay more to get better quality police on the roads has failed. Perhaps it is not the police themselves, but the leadership.

This is a very serious problem and should be an election platform.

It’s not immunity ,it’s money …
They’re told not to stop anyone ,if they did tourism will cease to exist …
Income from tourism if affected by will bankrupt the entire nation…
We have to let them “drive” anyway they can …
It’s business ,on one end makes us money ,and at the other cost lives …

Lives are not that important , being alive and starving is never a good thing …
Better chaos on the roads ,few dead and injured than country going hungry …

It’s business …plane and simple …
Money does not have eyes ,goes everywhere and everyone’s pocket …
