Dominican authorities partially restrict border crossings from Haiti

Dajabón, DR.- Dominican authorities have implemented partial restrictions on individuals and vehicles entering from Haiti, aiming to prevent potential incursions by Haitian criminals through the Border Crossing. This directive, enforced on Tuesday, resulted in the blocking of Haitian citizens’ entry via the border bridge connecting Dajabón with Juana Méndez. The measure has led to a standstill in trade and daily activities along the border.

This decision comes in response to the ongoing violence and mass prison escapes in Haiti, prompting Dominican authorities to maintain heightened vigilance against potential security threats emanating from the neighboring country. While specific details about the partial border closure have not been disclosed by government officials, only Haitian foreigners returning to their country from the Dominican Republic are currently permitted to exit. Additionally, individuals of non-Haitian nationality are allowed entry.
