Dominican government assists families affected by rains in several provinces

Sánchez Ramírez, DR.- Following the heavy rains caused by the low-pressure system since Monday, the Dominican government began delivering aid to families affected in Cotuí (Sánchez Ramírez), Villa Montellano (Monte Plata), Samaná, and La Altagracia.

The Minister of the Presidency (interim), Igor Rodríguez Durán, oversaw the distribution of raw and cooked food, household items, and technical assistance for repairing damaged homes.

“Teams from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) are working on channeling the streams, while brigades from the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (Inapa) are working on restoring drinking water services,” Igor added.

The authorities reported working together to restore normalcy in the affected areas. The director of Civil Defense, Juan Salas, pointed out that approximately 3,000 people nationwide were displaced to temporary shelters but are already partially returning to their homes.
