Ministry of Education announces 8% salary increase for teachers

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Education, headed by Ángel Hernández, announced an 8% increase in the base salary for all teachers effective May 1, 2024.

Hernández elaborated that this raise entails an additional $5,174.5 million for the remainder of the year, and approximately $7,474.2 million in 2025. He attributed this increase to the fulfillment of an agreement signed with the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), following several meetings and comprehensive analysis of the education budget and national economy. This step aims to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of teachers.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, Hernández noted that just under two years ago, a 10% salary increase was implemented, marking a historic 18% overall increase during this administration. Moreover, in 2023, there was a 7% salary boost for educational center directors, along with adjustments for retirees and pensioners.

“The Ministry of Education recognizes the dedication and hard work of our national teachers,” Hernández affirmed. “This salary increase is accompanied by investments in didactic and technological resources, ongoing training, and essential support to enhance their professional performance.”

He emphasized the critical role of education in national development and reiterated the ministry’s dedication to providing a quality educational system conducive to student learning. Hernández pledged to maintain compliance with other agreements established with the Dominican Association of Teachers and to continue fostering dialogue to address sector challenges.
