Operation Domo dismantles streaming piracy network in Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The Public Prosecutor’s Office launched Operation Domo, dismantling a piracy network dedicated to illegally reselling signals from television channels and streaming platforms.
The operation involved 30 prosecutors and 19 raids across the National District, San Pedro de Macorís, and Jarabacoa, coordinated with the Intellectual Property Unit, specialized prosecutor’s offices, and international support from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Authorities seized electronic equipment, documents, and vehicles.
Investigations revealed the network, composed of six defendants—four previously convicted in the U.S. for similar crimes—used advanced technology to hack pay-TV and streaming platforms. They sold illegal subscriptions in the Dominican Republic and abroad, often accepting cryptocurrency, generating millions in illicit profits laundered through the financial system.
The Attorney General’s Office, under Yeni Berenice Reynoso, emphasized that members will face charges of copyright infringement, high-tech crimes, and money laundering, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen the fight against organized crime.
