Storm Melissa triggers red alert in several provinces
Santo Domingo.- Authorities have placed several provinces under a red alert due to the heavy rains and potential flooding caused by Tropical Storm Melissa.
The alert covers Greater Santo Domingo, including the National District, as well as San Cristóbal, Peravia, Azua, Barahona, Pedernales, San José de Ocoa, and San Juan de la Maguana.
As a precaution, classes have been suspended in the affected areas, and government employees will work only until 1:00 p.m. Officials urged the public to exercise extreme caution and follow the guidance of emergency and civil defense agencies.
