Energy and Mines confirms Cormidom suspends mining in affected tunnel pending investigation
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Energy and Mines announced that Cormidom has suspended operations in the affected tunnel of the Cerro de Maimón mine following Tuesday’s incident, while a technical investigation is underway by specialists from the Ministry, the General Directorate of Mining (DGM), and the company.
Although activity in the damaged tunnel remains halted, the Ministry clarified that general mining operations continue, with crews conducting maintenance and structural reinforcement work in compliance with national safety protocols.
The investigation began on Wednesday with a technical inspection of the landslide area, where teams assessed ground stability and verified corrective measures taken by Cormidom. Authorities stated that a full report will be issued once the root cause analysis is complete.
The Ministry highlighted the company’s full cooperation with authorities and confirmed ongoing supervision of all risk prevention and mitigation efforts. It reaffirmed its commitment to mining safety and the strict enforcement of technical protocols to protect workers and ensure responsible mining operations across the country.
