Abinader to attend annual semiconductor meeting in California

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader will travel this Thursday, November 20, to San Jose, California, to participate in the Semiconductor Annual Meeting, after the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) invited the Dominican Republic for its efforts to build a solid and reliable ecosystem that positions the country as a safe destination for semiconductor investment.

Abinader will be accompanied by Minister of Industry and Commerce Víctor “Ito” Bisonó and a private-sector delegation as part of the National Strategy for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry (Enfis). During the visit, the Dominican team will meet with top CEOs from leading global semiconductor companies, including Intel, TSMC, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Micron. The goal is to strengthen partnerships and consolidate the country’s role as a reliable partner for companies seeking to diversify production chains away from Asia.

The priority areas the Dominican Republic aims to promote include the manufacturing of discrete semiconductors and passive components, assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) of mature-node chips, and the production of PCBs and chip integration into electronic devices—segments currently dominated by China. These initiatives respond to U.S. supply chain needs and leverage the country’s logistics advantages, free zone system, and precision manufacturing capabilities.

According to Abinader, the event represents a unique opportunity to showcase the nation’s potential, at a time when several free zone companies are already in talks with major global players.
