Inmates join Holy Week safety operations as part of a pilot program

Santo Domingo.- For the first time, the Civil Defense and the Penitentiary System have incorporated inmates into Holy Week preventive operations, as part of a pilot initiative aimed at supporting social reintegration.

In this initial phase, 10 inmates from different prisons were selected based on their exemplary behavior, according to the Directorate of Community Corrections. These individuals will take part in prevention and assistance efforts during the Holy Week 2026 operations, working alongside Civil Defense teams.

Civil Defense director Juan Salas explained that the initiative seeks to serve as a pathway for reintegration, offering inmates the opportunity to contribute to society through community service. Authorities highlighted that the program is designed to expand gradually, providing a practical platform for rehabilitation and social inclusion.
