Dominican U23 soccer team seals victory in Paraguay tour

Paraguay.- The Dominican U23 soccer team concluded its two-game series against Paraguay with a two-goal victory last Tuesday night, in a match held at La Huerta Stadium in Asunción. These matches are part of the team’s preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Nelson Lemaire and Oscar Ureña were the goal scorers for the Dominican team, marking the first victory under the technical direction of Spanish coach Ibai Gómez.

The Dominican Republic dominated the first half, controlling both possession and the scoreboard. They opened the scoring in the 18th minute when a well-executed team play led to Ángel Montes De Oca crossing the ball from the left for Lemaire to convert.

In the 31st minute, Oscar Ureña capitalized on a pass from the right, finding space at the near post to increase the lead with a well-placed shot.

In the second half, Paraguay made adjustments and managed to create some opportunities, with Marcelo Fernández scoring for them in the 74th minute with a shot from outside the area.

However, the Dominican team maintained control of the game in the final stages, thwarting the Paraguayan attacks. The match ended with some disturbances from the Paraguayan side, leading to fans entering the field. Nonetheless, the referees concluded the match with victory for the Dominican team.

Overall, the tour yielded one victory and one defeat against the reigning champions of the Conmebol 2024 Pre-Olympic tournament. In addition to the results, the performances of the Dominican team left a positive impression.
