Carnival ships 74 Puerto Plata stops bring 168,000 tourists in 8 months

Santo Domingo.- Around 74 cruise ships made stops at theAtlantic coast of Puerto Plata in the past eight months and brought 168,000 touristsfrom various nations, according to figures by the tour operator Carnival CruiseLines.

Carnival says its ships that made 74 stops at Amber Cove with tourists fromOctober 2015 to May 2016, “contributed significantly to the dynamism of theeconomy of Puerto Plata.”

It said 66% of the passengers visited the various tourist attractionsin and around Puerto Plata, where they stayed for several days while otherswent to see the area’s numerous historical sites.

Carnival said the tourists mostly visited the beaches, the cablecar, the boardwalk, and nearby towns such as Sosua and Cabarete.

The cruise ship giant said as many as four ships per week broughthundreds of thousands of tourists who’ve come to Dominican Republic as theirmain destination vacation.

Quoted by listin.com.do, Carnival’s data notes that 80% of thevisitors come from the US, and 20% from Europe.
