Veloz: Eastern area will add a thousand new rooms by the end of 2024

Punta Cana—Ernesto Veloz, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Projects of the Eastern Zone (Asoleste), stated that, due to the country’s demand for more hotel rooms, 3,000 are already under construction in the Eastern Zone, and a thousand should be ready by the end of 2024.

“One thousand rooms must be ready this year and will be integrated into the staff and there are already others that have been started; they will be for next year,” he added.

In that sense, which is very much on par with the need for labor for construction and hotel work, the manager said that around 5 to 6 thousand people are needed. «The sector needs 2.1 employees per room, and we are making 3,000 rooms. “We will need a lot of staff before, during, and after adding rooms to the tourism sector.”

Given the large number of personnel needed, Veloz reiterated that support from the public sector, such as Infotep, is required for training.

«We need Infotep to do an important center in the Eastern zone so that we can train. There are many people who have the desire to work but do not have the training and we are also trying to improve the quality of service because our infrastructure is enviable for any destination,” he said.

He stated that with the need for labor, they are also working to increase the incentive that human capital would receive.

How about some investment in infrastructure? Absolutely zero work on improving roads (totally congested), flooding, sewage, garbage. No regional water. No police presence on the roads unless under a tree staring at cellphones.

The roads of the tourist zone are going to become a huge tapón unless there is some relief from development, build, build, build without regard of the need of infrastructure support. Avenida Barcelo and Punta Cana road, Veron, plus Av’s Espana and Alemana in Bavaro cannot handle its traffic, nothing is fluid. The Ministry of Economy held a community meeting in April about the infrastructure needs. That is all that has been done to address the matter. It is an observation, there is a development of residences by Noval near the Barcelo rotunda. Noval is promoting more than 500 condo apartment type homes at the exclusive location. Also, the lack of an adequate reserve of water is a crisis in the making. Heaven help us!
