Luis Abinader, ITM Group announce Port Samaná opening on November 24 with 1,000 direct jobs

Samaná.- President Luis Abinader oversaw the announcement that Port Samaná will officially open on November 24, marking a major milestone for cruise tourism development in the Dominican Republic. The project, led by ITM Group, is expected to generate more than 4,000 jobs and position Samaná as one of the Caribbean’s top cruise destinations.

The port, currently in its final development stage, is part of a public-private partnership involving key institutions such as the Dominican Port Authority and the Ministry of Tourism. Authorities emphasized that coordinated efforts are underway to ensure the successful launch, including infrastructure upgrades, road improvements, and service readiness across the province.

Port Samaná aims to attract up to one million cruise passengers by 2030, with major ships already scheduled to arrive. Among them is the Icon of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, set to dock in Samaná Bay in 2027—an event expected to mark a historic moment for the country’s cruise industry.

To support the expected influx of visitors, the government is accelerating road connectivity projects across key routes such as Arroyo Barril, El Limón, and Las Terrenas. Additional priorities include ensuring safe navigation conditions, strengthening environmental management, and completing essential public works before the port’s inauguration.

Beyond infrastructure, the project includes investments in tourism development, community training, and sustainability initiatives. A community center in Sánchez will provide education and entrepreneurship programs, while job fairs will be organized to connect local residents with employment opportunities generated by the port.

With strong public and private sector collaboration, the Port Samaná project is set to drive economic growth, expand tourism, and reinforce the Dominican Republic’s position in the global cruise market.
