Puerto Plata.- Three foreign tourists whose sailboat went adrift were rescued unhurt by the Dominican Navy and Civil Defense in Atlantic waters near Luperon Bay on Sunday.

Canadian national and boat captain Michael Edward Sweeney, Polish Aneda Irena Kowalik and Austrian Alexander Sanz were rescued after having set sail from Haiti to the U.S.

Officers of the Dominican Navy told local media that the three foreigners were traveling on the sailboat “Lohta” which sustained engine failure, while the strong winds forced it aground, where they began to sink, and called 9-1-1.
