Abinader thanks Biden for recognizing his government’s fight against corruption

Homero Figueroa, the spokesman for the Presidency and Director of Government Strategy and Communication, announced that President Luis Abinader expressed his gratitude to President Joe Biden through Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman for recognizing the Dominican government’s efforts to implement public policies promoting transparency and combatting corruption. During the Democracy Summit on March 29, 2023, President Biden praised the Dominican Republic’s anti-corruption plans and efforts to establish an independent judiciary, stating that the country had modernized its anti-corruption law.

In his meeting with Undersecretary Sherman, President Abinader emphasized the importance of the international community’s assistance to Haiti in its efforts to recover its peace and democratic institutions. Figueroa added that President Abinader reiterated the Dominican Republic’s position on its relationship with Haiti, which he described as fundamental and an expectation for all Dominicans, and emphasized the country’s daily practice of solidarity with Haiti, particularly in the health budget.

Figueroa also noted that Undersecretary Sherman held meetings with other Dominican officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Roberto Álvarez, during which they discussed issues of interest to the Dominican Republic, such as the country’s fight against drug trafficking and the positive results achieved in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
