Former Haitian ambassador to the Dominican Republic joins Haiti’s Transition Council

Puerto Príncipe, Haití.- Smith Augustin, the former ambassador of Haiti in the Dominican Republic, has been named as a member of the presidential Transition Council of Haiti. This appointment comes as a replacement for Dominique Dupuy, the only female member of the council, who resigned over the weekend due to receiving sexist messages and threats.

According to reports from the Haitian newspaper “Le Nouvelliste,” Augustin’s appointment was made effective on Sunday by the political groups EDE-RED and Compromis Historique. They have sent the official appointment to Caricom, and Augustin is expected to participate in a meeting with that organization on Monday.

Dominique Dupuy’s resignation on Sunday was prompted by the sexist comments and threats directed towards her by various actors and political sectors in the country, particularly on social media platforms.

“In addition to facing baseless political attacks and threats to my life, my involvement as the only young woman among 8 men has encountered obstacles that certain actors have chosen to create,” Dupuy stated in a video addressing her resignation.

This so called foreign imposed transitional council is going nowhere and has been rejected by the majority of Haitians.
