BiggerVenezuela: plane smoke sparks evacuation on Santo Domingo flight
Caracas.- On Sunday afternoon, 92 passengers on a Laser Airlines flight in Venezuela were evacuated using emergency slides after smoke emerged from the aircraft’s fuselage.
The plane, bound for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, departed from Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, La Guaira state.
Social media video shows passengers exiting the plane quickly, with some even falling to the pavement. Venezuelan media outlets reported the incident, which was later confirmed by the National Civil Aeronautics Institute (INAC) of Venezuela.
According to INAC, passengers were transferred to the airport’s designated triage area and received medical attention. Laser Airlines provided a replacement aircraft to complete the flight after security protocols were followed and checked baggage was unloaded without issue.
“The neighboring country’s aeronautical security institution will conduct a thorough evaluation of safety protocols at Simón Bolívar International Airport and Laser Airlines to determine the cause of the incident and ensure the continued safety of civil aviation,” INAC officials stated in a social media post.
Glad nobody seriously hurt. The plane was a McDonnel Douglas MD-83.
Well there you go…. Laser’s MD 83’s were built for AA in 1987. They are 37years young. Well maintained by a Venezuelan maintenance centre black listed from every parts of the world is a recipe for success and safety. I hope they make the passengers drunk before they board the aircraft!!
It seems that the aircraft had landed safely at Caracas and taxied to the apron but when reaching the gate the emergency slides were deployed and an evacuation was carried out due to smoke on board. Some passengers received minor injuries as a result of a disorderly evacuation. Passengers were sliding down with their luggage causing luggage to slide down and hitting other passengers.
Taking luggage when using emergency slides is prohibited for this very reason.
But “luckily” the aircraft departed 3 hours later. Unimaginable…. Smoke on board, slides deployed and ready to go!!!!!Probably without replacement slides!!!
