Leones del Escogido add American pitchers Rosscup and Westphal to roster

Santo Domingo.- The Leones del Escogido have announced the signing of two American left-handed pitchers, Zac Rosscup and Luke Westphal, to strengthen their pitching staff for the upcoming Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) season, under the management of Albert Pujols.
Rosscup, 36, returns to the team after his performance last season, where he posted a 2-1 record and a 2.42 ERA during the regular season. He struck out 26 batters in 26 innings. In the semifinals, he improved his record to 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 12.2 innings. Most recently, he played for the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican Baseball League, achieving a 4-2 record and 41 strikeouts in 36 innings.
Westphal, 35, is set to make his second appearance in Dominican baseball, having played for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the 2019-20 season. He was a teammate of Rosscup’s with the Toros de Tijuana, where he maintained a 3.32 ERA and struck out 50 batters in 38 innings. He also played in Puerto Rico’s winter league, registering an impressive 0.79 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. Additionally, he represented Puerto Rico in the 2023 Caribbean Series.
With these two signings, Escogido now has five reinforcements confirmed for the season, which begins on October 16. The team will start training on September 23 at the New York Yankees’ complex in Boca Chica.
