Vehicles with provisional plates expired after July will not be fined

Santo Domingo—The General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) reported this Friday that it has implemented a series of actions to accelerate the delivery of the first motor vehicle license plates, to optimize the service offered to vehicle marketers.

In this sense, it provisionally requested the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transport Security (DIGESETT), the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transport (INTRANT), and the National Police not to apply fines or retain vehicles whose provisional license plates expired as of July 2024 until the normalization process is completed.

“Vehicles with license plates expired before that date will continue to be subject to the regulations in force,” the DGII clarified through a press release.

He added that a specialized technology, cybersecurity, and process team has been set up to work in the Plaza Luperón offices. “This team is focused on supporting concessionaires whose adaptation to the recent platform update has presented some challenges, thus improving the interaction between the systems and the new platform developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Customs (DGA),” he said.

In addition, the Department of Motor Vehicles has increased staff, and weekend shifts will be implemented for internal work to ensure that services remain up to industry and taxpayer expectations.

“The DGII deeply values the trust placed in it by the sector’s associations, such as the Association of Vehicle Manufacturer Dealers (ACOFAVE), the Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers Dealers Inc. (AFAMOTO), the United Group of the Automotive Industry of the Dominican Republic (Guía RD), the Association of Cibao Dealers (ADECI), the National Association of Vehicle Distribution Agencies (ANADIVE), and the Association of Young Vehicle Importers (ASOJOIMVE), among others. Permanent communication with these unions has been fundamental for the implementation of technological improvements and the optimization of the service,” the document reads.
