The Pact for the Animals goes to the National Congress for World Animal Day
The Pact for Animals, a project that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of animals in the Dominican Republic and guarantee the fulfillment of their rights, established in Law 248-12 on Animal Protection and Responsible Ownership, will arrive next week at the National Congress, with the interest that legislators support this initiative and that they assume the responsibility of approving the bill to modify the aforementioned piece of legislation that will be Depositing.
Promoted by the director of Listín Diario, Miguel Franjul, and Lorenny Solano, president of the Dominican Federation for Animal Rights (FEDDA), the pact will take a proposal to the National Congress in order to modify Law 248-12 on Animal Protection and Responsible Ownership. This proposal is being prepared together with the Ombudsman.
The objective of the Pact is to promote a comprehensive modification that not only reinforces the current legal framework, but also ensures the creation of efficient structures and mechanisms for the protection of animals. Among the most relevant proposals are the increase in penalties for animal abusers of at least five years in prison, the prohibition of animals being banned in residential areas and public spaces, the allocation of resources to animal protection organizations, among others.
Within the framework of World Animal Day, which is celebrated on October 4, Listín Diario and the Dominican Federation for Animal Rights, will be registering signatures of legislators in the session on Wednesday, October 2, motivating that the rights of all noble creatures be respected and that legislation be passed for a more equitable society. fair and respectful of their living beings.
This effort is part of the campaign that Listín Diario together with FEDDA have been developing since the beginning of May, when the need to make a pact of honor in favor of animals was raised, immediately attracting national attention and achieving massive support for it just two weeks before the presidential and congressional elections. the president of the republic, Luis Abinader, being the first to sign this important agreement and to promise that he would be fully involved in the animal cause.
The Pact for the Animals would only be held on May 6 and 7, however, the immense number of national and international personalities who have been interested in going to sign the piece and in making themselves available to contribute has been so many, that it had to be extended for more than a month at the facilities of the Listín Diario. and it left for the first time on September 10 in San Francisco de Macorís, within the framework of the Northeast Forum, where municipal authorities and representatives of civil society participated in its signing.
