FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup brings soccer passion to the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Soccer, more than just a sport, is a source of inspiration and connection. It fosters bonds among friends, families, and communities. In this spirit of celebration, the Dominican Republic is set to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024™ for the first time. The tournament will take place from October 16 to November 3, bringing excitement and passion for women’s soccer to the country.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024™ is a historic event for the Dominican Republic, sponsored by Coca-Cola and Powerade. These companies are committed to promoting women’s empowerment and believe that soccer is a unifying force that brings people together.

Under the concept of “Capitanas,” Coca-Cola has created an inspiring film that honors the leadership and strength of women in all areas of life. This sponsorship demonstrates the company’s recognition of the power of women and their contributions to society.

“Seeing my country host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup fills me with joy and pride. For us, this tournament is a unique opportunity to empower young women and show that, in both soccer and life, every woman can be the captain of her own story,” says Ana Virginia García, Marketing Director for Coca-Cola Dominican Republic.

This commitment goes beyond the tournament, as the Coca-Cola Company believes that women’s soccer is a tool for transformation and opportunity for young women, creating a positive impact in terms of community, connection, and education.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024™ will take place in two main venues: the Félix Sánchez Stadium in Santo Domingo and the Cibao Football Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros. This event, being held in the Dominican Republic for the first time and in the Caribbean for the second time (following Trinidad and Tobago in 2010), will feature 16 international teams, serving as an unprecedented platform for the development of women’s soccer and increased visibility for emerging female athletes.

The competition kicks off on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, with the Dominican national team facing Ecuador in the opening match, and will conclude with the final on Sunday, November 3. This will be the third edition of the tournament held in Concacaf territory, after the 2010 and 2014 editions, where the world’s best young female soccer players will offer a spectacular display of entertainment and sportsmanship for fans.

Elizabeth Mena, a member of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup organizing committee, emphasized that the tournament “is a unique opportunity to showcase the cultural richness and hospitality of our country to the world.”
