Santo Domingo — Starter Nico Tellache pitched solid for five innings, Domingo Leyba batted 3-3, including a home run, and Cristhian Adames hit a two-run triple to help the Tigres del Licey defeat the Estrellas Orientales 6-1 last night at the Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal.
With the win, the blue team remains in first place in the round robin of the winter baseball tournament with a 6-2 record, one game ahead of Escogido (5-3), which is in second place.
Tellache (1-0), who earned the victory, covered five innings with one run, four hits, no walks and five strikeouts. The loss went to Andy Otero (0-1).
For the Tigres, Leyba hit a home run and two singles; Gustavo Núñez, 4-2, with an RBI; Adames, a triple and two runs batted in; Francisco Mejía, a double.
For the Estrellas, Robinson Canó, 4-2 and Oscar González, 4-1, one RBI.
