Raquel Peña joins Indian Ambassador to commemorate India’s National Day

Santo Domingo.- Vice President Raquel Peña and Indian Ambassador Ramu Abbagani commemorated India’s 76th National Day and 25 years of diplomatic ties between the Dominican Republic and India in a ceremony celebrating Indian culture. The event, held on January 26, coincided with the birthday of Juan Pablo Duarte, founder of the Dominican Republic. Peña received a traditional welcome scarf as part of the festivities.

Ambassador Abbagani highlighted the shared values of democracy, freedom of expression, and human rights that underpin the relationship between the two nations. He praised the rapid growth of bilateral ties, citing milestones such as the visit of India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the opening of India’s embassy in Santo Domingo, Vice President Peña’s mission to India, and various agreements and training initiatives.

Dignitaries in attendance included Ricardo de Los Santos, President of the Senate; Franklin García Fermín, Minister of Higher Education; and former President Leonel Fernández. Ambassador Abbagani emphasized the mutual potential for economic growth, stating that “India and the Dominican Republic have much to offer each other and the world.”

She is getting a lot of press lately. Wondering if she is being groomed for the next Presidential election? Or… could it be that Pres Abinader has some situation that is slowing his public appearances?
