Dominican Republic selected for COP30 vice-presidency role

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been chosen to serve as one of the 12 global vice-presidents at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), to be held in Brazil in November. The country, alongside Panama, will co-lead climate discussions and work on securing agreements for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Sara Victoria González Troncoso, Technical Director of the National Council for Climate Change, will represent the Dominican Republic at the conference. She emphasized the importance of strengthening existing agreements and pushing for more ambitious climate commitments.

The Dominican Republic’s appointment reflects its unique position as a Latin American, Caribbean, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) member, allowing it to serve as a bridge between regions in the Global South to advance climate action. The country will also participate in a high-level board that will support Brazil in organizing COP30.
