DNCD strengthens anti-drug efforts with 55 new canine units

Santo Domingo.- The National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) has reinforced its anti-narcotics operations with the addition of 55 specially trained dogs to its Canine Units (K9). These new units will enhance the agency’s ability to detect and prevent drug trafficking, supporting ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks.

Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, president of the DNCD, welcomed the new canines at the Regional Training and Capacity Building Center for New Agents and Canine Units (CRECAAB). He emphasized their crucial role in security operations, stating that each detection represents a victory in the fight against drug-related crimes. The new additions include Belgian Malinois, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Labradors, and Dutch Shepherds, all trained in Colombia to identify illicit substances and currency.

These canine units will be deployed immediately at key airports, including Las Américas, Punta Cana, La Romana, Santiago, and Puerto Plata. They will also strengthen security efforts at major ports such as Caucedo, Haina Oriental, and Manzanillo, expanding DNCD’s operational reach in the fight against drug trafficking.
