Efraim Castillo receives 2025 National Literature Award
Santo Domingo.- Renowned playwright, narrator, essayist, and poet Efraim Castillo was honored with the 2025 National Literature Award in a ceremony at the Eduardo Brito National Theater. Upon receiving the award, Castillo expressed gratitude and encouraged younger generations to embrace reading and writing as essential tools for knowledge development.
The event began with a performance by the National Contemporary Dance Company, followed by opening remarks from Corripio Foundation advisor José Alcántara. He praised Castillo’s erudition and literary contributions, highlighting his significant impact on Dominican literature. Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo also spoke, describing Castillo as a versatile creator whose works explore themes such as power, social justice, and memory.
Writer Freddy Ortiz, who presented Castillo’s biography, emphasized his long-standing influence on literature and advertising. The award, granted annually by the Corripio Foundation, continues to recognize outstanding figures in national literature, solidifying Castillo’s legacy among the country’s literary greats.
