Cristo Rey residents call for aid after fire destroys home of elderly couple
Santo Domingo.- Residents of Cristo Rey are appealing to authorities for urgent assistance after a fire destroyed the home of an elderly couple early Sunday morning on Progreso Pablo VI Street. The blaze, reportedly caused by a gas tank explosion, left the couple homeless and without possessions.
Neighbors acted quickly, breaking down the front door to rescue the couple and several children who were inside. Although no fatalities were reported, the fire completely consumed the house. Four fire department units, with the help of local residents, managed to bring the flames under control.
On Monday, the community asked the Ministry of Housing and the Water and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) for support, noting they had exhausted their water reserves trying to contain the fire. “We ask President Luis Abinader to help with materials—zinc, blocks, or even appliances—because they lost everything,” said resident Porfirio Núñez.
