Raquel Peña leads Grand Thomas Celebrity Classic stop in Playa Nueva Romana
Playa Nueva Romana.- The Dominican Republic reaffirmed its leadership as the Caribbean’s top golf destination with the successful 19th edition of the Grand Thomas Celebrity Classic, held for the second time at the PGA Ocean’s 4 course in Playa Nueva Romana. The event gathered 110 national and international golfers and was chaired by Vice President Raquel Peña, who highlighted golf’s role in driving tourism, diversifying the economy, and boosting the country’s international profile.
During the ceremony, Peña honored Chris Jones, president of Equifax for Latin America and the Caribbean, for his professional contributions and support of the tournament. Jones noted that the competition also promotes tourism in line with the government’s development vision. The event was broadcast live on Teleuniverso and YouTube, extending its reach beyond the course.
Now in its 19th year, the tournament featured stops in Santiago, Puerto Plata, Casa de Campo, Cap Cana, and Playa Nueva Romana. Winners were recognized across three categories, with teams led by Fabio Balbuena, Víctor Collado, and Jean Suriel taking top honors. The circuit continues with two more events in October at Playa Dorada Golf Club in Puerto Plata and Las Aromas Golf Club in Santiago.
