Government and NVIDIA sign memorandum to promote AI training, innovation, and research

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader led an event where the Government of the Dominican Republic, through the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NVIDIA, a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing. The partnership aims to accelerate the implementation of the National AI Strategy and transform key sectors of national life through emerging technologies.

The alliance focuses on priority areas including health, education, transportation, public safety, finance, and tourism, applying AI solutions to improve public services, enhance competitiveness, and foster sovereign and inclusive technological development. President Abinader described the agreement as a historic step toward a future centered on the country’s people, talent, and innovation, emphasizing the social impact of AI—from faster medical diagnoses to smarter cities, personalized education, and sustainable tourism.

Key elements of the agreement include:

• Promotion of technological and data sovereignty through local hosting of AI models and infrastructure.

• Development of national AI talent via initiatives like the Deep Learning Institute and a future AI Academy.

• Establishment of a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, the first of its kind in Central America and the Caribbean, serving as a hub for research, education, and innovation accessible to students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and tourists.

• Launch of AI training programs in partnership with INFOTEP, followed by other public and private institutions starting in 2026.

The memorandum signals a pivotal move in positioning the Dominican Republic as a regional hub for technological innovation, reinforcing its commitment to digital sovereignty, smart solutions, and an AI-driven future. President Abinader described it as the beginning of a new era of intelligence, innovation, and national development.
