INFOTEP strengthens workforce training to support Samaná tourism growth

Samaná.- INFOTEP presented the progress of its technical and professional training programs in Samaná, highlighting its role in supporting tourism and port development in the province. The update was shared during a working session led by President Luis Abinader, focused on strengthening local economic growth.

According to director Maira Morla, the institution is aligning its training initiatives with the needs of the tourism sector, particularly in Arroyo Barril, where the upcoming port opening is expected to create new employment opportunities. In 2025, INFOTEP carried out 185 training programs benefiting more than 3,300 participants, while in the first quarter of 2026 it delivered 76 sessions reaching 1,368 people in collaboration with 41 companies and institutions.

A key focus has been the Samaná tourism cluster, with around 70 training initiatives impacting over 1,300 participants in areas such as customer service, cruise operations, and entrepreneurship. Additionally, Arroyo Barril has emerged as a strategic hub, with specialized training in tourism crafts, English, technical skills, and small business development.

INFOTEP also announced plans to launch a specialized diploma in cruise port operations, aimed at preparing the workforce for the new port’s operations. These efforts reflect a broader government strategy to boost employment, enhance service quality, and support sustainable tourism development in the province through coordinated public and private sector collaboration.
