Parents of 21 minors poisoned by alcohol at Christmas to face legal action
Santo Domingo.- The National Health Service (SNS) reported 21 cases of minors treated for alcohol poisoning on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The cases involved eight girls and 13 boys, ranging in age from 7 to 17 years. Hospitals across various regions, including the Metropolitan, Valdesia, Norcentral, Nordeste, Enriquillo, Este, Cibao Central, and Cibao Occidental, documented the incidents.
Dr. Yocasta Lara, director of SNS Hospitals, confirmed that the list of affected minors was submitted to the Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Public Health, in compliance with procedures for protecting minors’ rights. The report detailed the age, gender, and regional distribution of the cases.
Dr. Lara also noted that healthcare providers immediately notify local prosecutors when treating such cases, ensuring timely legal and protective actions. The SNS emphasized the importance of safeguarding minors during festive periods to prevent similar incidents.
