Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Women and the Central Electoral Board (JCE), in collaboration with the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) and the Official Philatelic Commission, has launched a new postal issue titled “Dominican Women of the 20th Century.” This series of stamps honors six pioneering women who made significant contributions to social, educational, economic, and political equality in the Dominican Republic.

The stamps, valued at RD$60.00 each, feature Petronila Angélica Gómez, Celeste Woss y Gil, Abigail Coiscou, Delia Weber, Hilma Contreras, and Carmen Natalia Martínez Bonilla. They were influential figures in various fields such as education, feminism, and the arts, and played crucial roles in advancing human rights and social justice. With a total print run of 12,000 copies, the stamps aim to preserve their legacy and highlight their impact on Dominican society.

Felipe Carvajal from IESPEC noted that the stamps will cement these women’s names in the collective memory. The launch event was attended by notable figures from civil society and the philatelic community, celebrating the enduring influence of these women.
