ONDA Director emphasizes Dominican cinema’s potential for the creative economy
Santiago, DR.- José Rubén Gonell Cosme, director of the National Copyright Office (ONDA), underscored the significant impact of Dominican cinema on the development of the country’s creative or orange economy. Speaking at the seminar on “Copyright in the Audiovisual Industry,” organized by Egeda Dominicana and ONDA, he identified the film industry as a crucial pillar in fostering growth within this emerging economic sector. The event took place on September 26 at the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), attracting a notable audience of filmmakers and audiovisual producers.
During his address, Gonell Cosme highlighted the importance of registering creative works with ONDA. Although not legally required, he stressed that registration is highly recommended to protect the moral and property rights of authors. “Registration with ONDA enables authors to claim their rights more efficiently,” he stated, encouraging attendees to utilize the National Copyright Office’s services. He reassured them that the registration process is straightforward and can be completed both in person and online.
